About Me

My photo
Proud single mom of one beautiful daughter who shares my love of sports and music. She doesn't share my love of the outdoors which I find weird. I love photography and wish I had a better camera!! Maybe someday...

Supercar Sunday - 2 Fast but Not So Furious

Where did we leave off?

Oh, that's right...At Supercar Sunday at the Westfield Promenade Mall in Woodland Hills.  If you're ever in the LA area on a Sunday and you like to look at cars, this is your place. Every Sunday local supercar owners bring their amazing rides to the parking lot to see and be seen.

On this particular Sunday, there were a lot of Ferraris with other cars, both vintage and current, thrown in.  And of course, the McLarens come out to play.

Every since I was a little chica, I've dreamed of having a Corvette.  I'll take these two please!

At the show, I could indulge my fantasies with all kinds and colors.  If you missed the previous post with the Fast and the Furious 1963 Corvette, you can find it HERE.

Let's get on with the cars!

Talk about vintage!  This is a 1926 Bugatti

This was one of the few Lamborghinis that I saw on that particular day.

I love this silver Camaro!  Another dream growing up and I still want one.

And last, but not least, as I was leaving actually, I saw a sight that made me turn my ass around. The Captain America Mobile.   Two vehicles were pulling into the parking lot that were eye-catching, mostly because of their wraps.  And of course because they're SuperCars!

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Breathtaking.

Next time I'm in LA, I'll be there at the show, drooling and dreaming.  Hope to see you there!

Supercar Sunday ~~ I Feel the Need for Speed! 5/3/15

Yeah, I know it's not Sunday...the Sunday in the title relates to the day I happened upon a Supercar Sunday car show in Los Angeles while I was on my way to Sacramento via Santa Barbara.

I had got up pretty early to head back to town from visiting my daughter and was driving down the 10 towards downtown when I caught sight of what looked like a Ferrari flying up behind me.  It went past at a decent speed and I thought that it was just a quick blessing to my car fetish.

Nope.  After a minute, two more supercars came  up behind me; this time there was a Maserati and another Ferrari.  And then, a group of about 30 Mustangs - old and new - surrounded me.  Some of these guys were driving like assholes, which is never fun, but in that large of a group?  So reckless.

But it confirmed for me that they were heading towards some kind of car show.  Being me...I followed.  And hit the mother lode.

And that photo is of cars that were not really in the car show.  Just people like the ones who had flashed by me on the highway.

What follows are tons of photos of amazing cars.  Some cars like you've never seen and one car you probably have.  In a movie.  Namely The Fast and The Furious.  I'm going to bookend this post with a car manufacturer that more people should be familiar with.

McLaren Automotive

A McLaren P1 GTR to be precise.  The top of the line, a supercar that even some supercar fans haven't heard of.

I first became acquainted with McLaren when I met a rich dude in Sacramento who had one.  It was a thing of beauty and he educated me in our very short acquaintance. Whenever I see one, it feels like I just ate a piece of cake. Yummy.

More pictures of this baby later but here's his younger brother.

The "regular" P1.  Looking hot in silver and black.

A successful University of Southern California alum was there showing off his candy-apple red Ferrari.  (Fingers crossed that my own USC alum will buy me one of these someday.)

The McLaren autos were obviously the stars of the show and were in the top row.  Then, row after row of fabulous cars were lined up.  Mostly Ferrari's both young and old and in all your prototypical supercar colors.

But of course there were other brands sprinkled in.  Such as this cherry Maserati that was adorably being admired by a kid in a cherry shirt.

There were also cars for sale, such as this 29 year old Ferrari.  I almost snapped it up.  But I only had $69,999.00 in my bank account.  Shoot.  Just $10,000 short!

These three supercar owners were jockeying for the best parking spot.

I have another acquaintance who has a Maserati.  He only drives it on the weekends and his other vehicle is a truck.  I wish I could post sound, because the engine of a Maserati purrs and growls like a panther.  Beautiful.

Ferrari duel

All right, here ya go.  This is the actual car from Fast and the Furious.  A beautiful, silver 1963 Corvette.  With it's "action figure" because it's a star!

And speaking of vintage Corvettes, there was a lovely blue model in the next row.

And then he left.

There was also the awesome BreastCar! #FightCancer Very cool.

I'm going to finish up this post with a few more shots of the McLarens, but rest assured, I have more fabulous car photos to come.

And baby got BACK!

Good night!

Thunderbirds Are a Go! 10/4/15

Last day of the California Capital Airshow!  The main event, the US Air Force Thunderbirds.

Most of the crowd was over by where the Thunderbirds were parked.  It was an imposing sight with eight F 16 Fighting Falcons, cockpits ajar, lined up waiting for pre-flight check.

I hung out behind several rows of people while the pilots and their ground crew inspected the 'birds and performed the necessary flight checks.

I love this picture.  All of the distortion is jetwash after they started the engines.  It looked amazing and I thought the crewmember was quite brave to stand there! Obviously he is standing beside it and not directly back from the engine.

While the jets taxied out to the runway, the ground crew put on a coordinated show of their own.  I was very happy to see the pretty, young woman in the crew (who can also be seen assisting her pilot into the cockpit in one of the photos above)!

As soon as the crew finished, I speedwalked to the other end of the tarmac so I could get a spot with less people and also be closer to my car so I could beat some of the crowd.  It was a wise decision and I happened to get a primo spot.

It.

Was.

Awesome!

Takeoff!  Thunderbirds are a go!

Okay...I know this is silly but I totally saw this cloud and had to post it.  It looks like a jet!  There is a barrel and a nose cone!  And the dark spot is a wing!  Just me?  Okay...  lol

Back to the real planes.  lol

Vapor trails are sooooo hot!  FYI, this is not the smoke that comes from canisters attached to the planes nor is this the normal contrail seen in the sky left by vapor in the exhaust of a plane.

This is a "wing-tip" or "lift-generated" trail created by the flow of air which creates a distortion.  It mixes with the humidity in the air and forms a thin trail that lasts for just a few seconds/minutes.  You can also see one forming off of the body of the jet if you look above the "feathers" of the closest wing.  These occur most frequently at "high-G".  In layman's terms, when the jets are hauling ass.

Sacramento has relatively low humidity and you'll be able to see this phenomenon much better in my pictures of the Blue Angels taken in San Francisco on 10/9/15.  When I eventually post them of course.  haha

I'm thrilled that I got some photos of it.  My lens is manual focus and when the planes are going by sooooo fast, it's hard to focus and get a clear picture when I see a trail form.

Now this?  Is smoke.  Pretty smoke.

And this?  Is awe inspiring.  So much skill.

And this?  Is the end.
